What do politician Mo Mowlem, engineer Robert Stephenson and civil rights campaigner Frederick Douglass all have in common? Answer: they all lived in Summerhill square, one of Newcastle’s hidden gems.
Join us for a guided tour of the Summerhill area, led by long-term resident and local history enthusiast Dr Dow Smith. Discover the 5 blue plaques around the square and the histories that lie behind the doors of Summerhill Square’s georgian and victorian houses. As seen on BBC TV’s “A House Through Time”.
The tour will commence at Summerhill Bowling Club, and last approximately 1 hour. At the end we will serve complimentary tea and coffee at the pavilion.
